Choose a rain repellent by what it does on your journeys: how water clears, what you can see after a wiper pass and how much attention the treated glass needs. Price, the word ‘ceramic’ and a photo of drops do not explain this on their own.
1. Water movement
Water repellency changes how the surface wets: water forms drops. The next question is whether they leave the glass easily. On everyday journeys, the effect at your usual speed matters, including in light rain.
In our experience with original Aquapel, noticeable water clearing occurred at approximately 40–50 km/h. On another car or in different weather, the threshold may vary. Use the wipers as needed and do not accelerate to test the coating.
2. Clarity and wiper performance
The glass should remain clear after application. Persistent haze, streaks or unsatisfactory wiping need correcting, whatever the brand of product.
When choosing, look at demonstrations after a wiper pass, not just footage with the wipers off. It is useful to see the result in different lighting conditions.
3. Preparation and procedure
Read the instructions before buying. Find out how the surface is prepared, how many stages are involved, how residue is removed and whether a waiting period is needed before contact with water.
Aquapel comes in a ready-to-use, single-use applicator: clean and dry the glass, activate the applicator, treat the whole glass evenly and afterwards wipe it dry. This sequence is convenient when you want to know the full scope of the job in advance.
4. Retaining the result
Assess how the effect changes with use. A duration in months without conditions is of little help in a comparison: mileage, rain, wipers and care differ between cars. What matters is when water genuinely starts to clear less well from cleaned glass.
5. Clear product provenance
The seller should provide clear contact details and information about the packaging offered. The lowest price does not prove a counterfeit, and a high price does not confirm quality. Product provenance and condition are checked separately.
