Aquapel is a water-repellent treatment for exterior automotive glass. The product chemically bonds to its surface and changes how water wets the glass: it forms drops and clears more easily under airflow.
Bonding to glass is the basis of the treatment
It is not just the shape of the drops immediately after application that matters. We look at practical performance: water movement, glass clarity after a wiper pass and retention of the effect in use. Chemical bonding explains how Aquapel works, while correct preparation lets the product contact the glass surface itself.
Why the glass must be clean and dry
Road film, wax and residue from earlier products can come between Aquapel and the glass. Cleaning is therefore a full stage of the job. The applicator does not replace it. Remove contamination, dry the surface completely and check that no water is coming from under the seals.
How to apply the treatment
The applicator contains a glass ampoule. Squeezing the side wings breaks it, and the liquid wets the pad. Hold the applicator with the sponge facing upwards. Squeeze the side wings until the glass ampoule breaks and allow the liquid to wet the sponge. Wait about 10 seconds to let the liquid come into contact with air, then begin applying it to the prepared glass. Go evenly over the whole glass at least three times, treat the edges last. Then wipe the glass with paper towels or a microfibre cloth until it is clean and dry. Do not let the product air-dry.
Care after treatment
Normal cleaning with automotive glass products does not reduce Aquapel's durability. Over time, wipers and road contamination put strain on the surface, so assess the result on cleaned glass. If the coating needs to be removed completely, use suitable abrasive glass polishing.
